Florida Bar Consumer Legal Resources
If you’re trying to understand how the legal world actually works, this is one of the most helpful places you can visit. The Florida Bar created a collection of easy-to-read guides that break down common legal topics in plain language. These aren’t meant to replace an attorney, but they give you the kind of clarity people usually only get after hiring one.
This section of their site includes:
- Opportunities for non-lawyers to get involved in improving the justice system
- Straightforward explanations of legal fees
- What to expect during representation
- How to check a lawyer’s discipline history
- How to file a complaint if something goes wrong
- Your rights and responsibilities as a client
- Helpful forms and consumer materials
It’s practical, clear, and grounded in real Florida law. If you’ve never hired an attorney before, this resource helps you understand the system before you step into it.

Want a second perspective?
The Florida Bar also has its own “How to Hire a Lawyer” guide. It’s more formal and written from the system’s point of view, but it gives you a straightforward look at fees, consultations, legal-aid options, and what Florida expects from its attorneys.
It pairs well with this guide because you get both angles…
the official version and the survivor-centered version.
