New York State guarantees crime victims the right to:

π° Victim Compensation in New York
The New York Office of Victim Services (OVS) provides financial compensation for survivors of violent crimes.
Eligible costs include:
- Medical and mental health treatment
- Funeral and burial costs
- Lost wages or support
- Crime scene cleanup, relocation, and security
Eligibility Requirements:
- Report the crime within 1 week (with good cause exceptions)
- Apply within 1 year of the crime (extensions apply)
- Cooperate with law enforcement and OVS
